BayA4 is a track in TrackMania United Forever, set in the Bay environment. The track consists of a booster leading into a jump, followed by a series of tight chicanes. Despite its simple structure, BayA4 has seen meaningful optimization over time.

World Record History

On release, BayA4 was driven as a straightforward track, with the optimal strategy consisting of a press-forward start and precise navigation through the chicanes. For a period, improvements came solely from cleaner lines and tighter execution.

This changed with the discovery of the ramp cut that the track is now known for. By cutting the ramp to the right, players can save just over a tenth of a second. The cut is only viable on the right side, as it provides a more favorable entry into the following corner and allows players to carry more speed into the chicanes.

The current world record is held by Dameager, who set a time of 14.80 on 12 January 2021.

Strategies

Ramp Cut

After the booster and jump, players cut the ramp on the right side to shorten the racing line. Attempting the cut on the left is slower and leads to a worse angle for the next turn.

Chicanes

The remaining section of the track requires precise steering through multiple chicanes. Maintaining stability and avoiding unnecessary slides is more important than aggressive inputs.

Tool-Assisted Speedruns

Unlike most tracks in the Bay White Series, the TAS for BayA4 is notably more complex. In addition to an optimal ramp cut and near-perfect driving, the TAS utilizes an Uberbug, granting a large speed increase. This causes the car to collide with various pieces of scenery before finishing the track. Earlier TAS attempts focused solely on maximizing precision without exploiting this behavior.
