A Start Trick is a trick that is used to gain distance and/or speed by doing a maneuver at the start of the race. There are TAS start tricks and RTA start tricks, as well as different variations for the Stadium, Island, Desert, Bay, Coast and Snow Environments.

Booster start trick[edit]

The most well-known start trick is the Stadium booster start trick. Driving off the start ramp can give a speed advantage over a press-forward start. An even quicker TAS-only variation of this start trick was discovered by JaV in 2022. In his video, he details using Bruteforce to find a start trick even better than the normal start trick. This has been dubbed as the JaV trick. Due to Trackmania's determinism, this only worked in the -X direction. However, players found that by bruteforcing a certain base run with the right settings, it would get the desired result in any direction. This is now referred to as the Super Start Trick.
