A Dead Turtle is when the car is 180 degrees upside down and cannot gain grip, as opposed to turtling where the car can still be controlled. When in a dead turtle you cannot control the car, however it can still move via default movement, and may still make progress or eventually unturtle. It is called "dead" because the car can get completely stuck except for respawning. Every car can dead turtle.

Water in Trackmania 2020 can unturtle the Stadium, Snow, Rally and Desert cars. However, water in TMNF and TMUF cannot unturtle any cars.

Methods of unturtling with Stadium car include:

Turtling into a wall (common in trials)
Landing on the ground so that the car rotates or bounces into an unturtled position
Exaggerating the car's turtle motion enough to make the car flip over (difficult)
