Title Pack (often written as Title or Titlepack) is a Maniaplanet content pack that uses TrackMania² or ShootMania as a base. It allows you to freely use features of Maniaplanet games to create new game titles within the platform.
Title packs are stored as Pack.Gbx files (Pak format).
Customization[edit]
Title packs can be customized in various ways that are otherwise not available in official titles:
- Custom menu
- Solo gamemode
- Campaign, support for more campaigns in a single title pack
- Unique ranking system, for both solo and multi
- Item content above 1MB per map (that would otherwise need to be embedded)
- Custom texture mod (forced on all maps)
- Custom musics
- Custom car physics
Base[edit]
Base of a title pack is an officially released Maniaplanet game or a combination of multiple. A title pack can be based on one of these title bases:
- TMCanyon (TrackMania Canyon)
- TMStadium (TrackMania Stadium)
- TMValley (TrackMania Valley)
- TMLagoon (TrackMania Lagoon)
- TMAll (All Trackmania) - all TM2 environments within a single title
- SMStorm (ShootMania Storm)
- SMMeteor[note 1]
- None[1]
- ↑ The game accepts "SMMeteor" as a valid title pack base, but it's not possible to create or play a title pack with this base as the SMMeteor base title doesn't exist.
Other combinations are not possible. You cannot combine just TMCanyon and TMStadium in a single title pack for example. The last option - None - is meant as an empty title pack. This title base has no menu by default, but one can be assigned with ManiaScript. It provides only basic functionality, such as map browsing (but without the possibility of opening them), and some general Maniaplanet tools, such as Interface Designer. The None title base was used officially in the Solitaire title pack.
TMAll[edit]
Nadeo has made an official TrackMania2 title pack supporting all TrackMania² environments from one menu, but since Maniaplanet 4 (which overhauled the whole title pack system), it was never updated, so it was later replaced with the community-made TrackMania² Multienvironment title pack.
Creating a Title Pack[edit]
A title pack can made either by using a Title Maker (high-level) or by using the Edit Content Packs section (low-level).
A Title Maker can be installed from the Maniaplanet store. They usually mention the word "Maker". You can also click in the bottom right corner of an official title pack.
To create a title pack from scratch, go to Options, then Edit Content Packs.
Encryption[edit]
Title packs are user-made Pak files, which means they have some encryption involved in them.
To unlock a title pack, the main requirement is to send a request to the master server, which will respond with an encryped base key that the client will decrypt using a given public key and finally resolve into final two keys that will allow the title pack decryption process. Base keys are then stored in their original encrypted form in Profile.Gbx, which allows offline access to the title packs for up to 3 months. These 3 months are interrupted for all title packs once going online again, as a new public key is received which cannot decrypt the stored encrypted keys.
Because of this, once the master server shuts down, title packs that were never installed will no longer be possible to play, and the offline mode for them will last only up to 3 months at most.
Trivia[edit]
- Trackmania 2020 runs on a title pack called Trackmania and it uses the TMStadium base.
