GameBox is a community-chosen name of the engine that runs on all Nadeo games. Its development began in 2002.[1]

The engine does not have an official name, but is internally refered to as la GameBox or “the client's code”.[1] The name “GameBox” is often refered to in protocols and file formats that Nadeo has developed in its abbreviated form, Gbx.
